Mulki Al-Sharmani received her doctorate in cultural anthropology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland (USA) in 2004. She has been working as an assistant professor at the Social Research Center since 2005. Dr. Sharmani is also an affiliate faculty/researcher at the Forced Migration and Refugee Studies Program at AUC. At the SRC, she has worked research projects related to: development of participatory research tools to study violence against children, child protection policies in Egypt, Egyptian youth issues, and developmental idealism and Egyptian families. Dr. Sharmani has also worked and published on: livelihood of refugee communities, secondary movement and protection of refugees, community building and identity constructions of refugees, transnationalism and diasporas, citizenship, and gender.
